Aaron, Libby, and I did not know each other prior to this shoot, but definitely know each other after! Aaron reached out to me after finding me on Instagram. We ended up meeting at the gardens a week prior in order to walk the grounds and find the perfect spot that he wanted to propose. We ended up going to the back of the gardens to the Japanese section as it is meaningful to them as they have been to southeast Asia.
Aaron was a little nervous for the day as he knew that Emily knew he would be proposing any day, so she was on alert once they got to the gardens. She ended up telling me that she saw me across the gardens, even though I was being pretty disguised while talking with other people at the gardens.
Once Aaron started the proposal, Libby started crying and tearing up, so after the initial photos of the proposal, I gave them about 10-15 minutes to collect themselves and just have an intimate moment between them as this was such an important moment for the both of them.
We ended up saying a fake "goodbye" after taking photos at the Gardens, then I raced to Libby's parents house as they had a small party to say congratulations to them. I completely faked out Libby as she had NO idea about the party and that I would also be there to capture photos of the party.
Libby, Aaron, and I ended up staying in touch as we are major sports fans, including racing, and ended up running into each other at Children's of Alabama Indycar Grand Prix, Birmingham Bulls, Birmingham, Barons, and other events! Then we also found out we have a lot of mutual friends, so it was a perfect match for a photographer in my opinion!
